Car-man is having a great year at school, needing little assistance and keeping up academically just fine. Socialization is still a struggle for him, and we're trying to help him find a balance between alone-time and time with friends. He continues to love math, is a good reader, and has matured a lot this past year. His latest obsessions are Pokeman, highway interchanges, making books and Google Earth. He is a loving big brother to Sweet Pea and has amazed me with how nurturing and sweet he is with her.

Curious Z is as curious as ever and we spend a lot of time reminding not to interrupt, to use his inside voice, keep his hands to himself, sit quietly in his chair at the dinner table, etc. . . but it's hard to resist his energy and enthusiasm for life and I hope we're helping him learn to control his passion, not put it out. He started kindergarten this year, and loves it. He is a social butterfly and chats with everyone he sees. He is learning to control his energy there, as here at home, and it's a constant struggle, but he seems to be improving! He sings all the time, loves reading books and can read very well, enjoys building with Knex and Legos, can't get enough of Star Wars (even though he's not seen any of the movies!) and most of all, loves to be with people all the time!

Sweet Pea has been such a blessing to our family! Our world was turned upside down with a new little baby, and a girl at that, but we have loved every minute of it! She is full of giggles and smiles and it is amazing to me to watch her learn new things every day. The boys are in love with her and she is in love with them and one of my favorite things is to watch them greet each other in the morning - so precious!

Backpacker and I are doing fine - we have nothing exciting to report, just glad we're still together with our little family around us. This summer marked four years here in the midwest - the longest we've lived anywhere since we met in college. This is not at all where we thought we'd end up, and we're still not sure it's where we want to stay, but it seems to be the best place for our family right now, and we're thankful for all we have here.

We wish everyone a blessed 2009!

Loved reading your letter. :) And, as always, am so impressed with your photos. I loved the pictures of the kids with the sculptures in the city -- these are better than many of the photos you see in magazines! I love hearing how well you're all doing with life's challenges and joys :)
Great Christmas letter...maybe it will inspire me to do one too on my blog. We've missed being at home, but we've had a great time here with family.
